Year 8

The second year (Yr 8) aim is to provide pupils with the skills and knowledge as described in the National Framework for Teaching ICT Capability. The aim is to teach pupils:

· Advanced elements of graphics and their manipulation
· Advanced Features of Word processing
· Advanced Features of Desktop publishing
· Advanced Spreadsheets Features
· Advanced Databases Features
· Advanced Multimedia Presentations
· Web page design
· Data use issues - information validity, reliability and bias

They cover 4 units:
1. The context is about gathering different kinds of information from a variety of sources to develop
an information service about local tourist attractions.

2. The last task of the project revisits skills learnt in Year 8 Unit 1. Students will develop a kiosk
application “Mobile phone” for the shop and link the spreadsheet to the ‘presentation’.

3. This unit takes the form of a mini-project and continues the theme set in Unit 2. Students will
edit the structure of an existing database and create a series of queries, reports and a mail
merge. At the end of the unit, they will evaluate their work during the project as a whole and
link the products to their eportfolio.

4. Discussion about the legal, moral and social issues surrounding the use of computers. They use
banking as the main example. they cover Handling Personal Data and Data Handling Outside
School.
