Subject Area
Hemel Hempstead School offers a broad and balanced curriculum appropriate to all levels of ability and need. We are justly proud of our Specialist Performing Arts status and, more recently, our new specialism in Maths and Science.
At Key Stage 3 we follow the National Curriculum of English, Mathematics, Science, R.E., P.E.,Technology, Modern Languages, ICT, History and Geography as well as our specialist subjects of Art, Dance, Drama and Music. Students at Key Stage 4 all study English, Maths, Science, R.E. Citizenship and P.E., with the vast majority also choosing to study an Arts subject and a language alongside a Humanities subject. By the end of Year 11, because of our wide choice of examinations, students will have studied between eight and fourteen GCSEs, depending on their aptitude and interests.
There is also a huge choice at post -16, where our programme of A Level and BTEC National Certificate subjects is enhanced by the opportunities offered in the West Dacorum Partnership for Learning. Students can choose the subjects and courses that are tailor-made for them, supported by effective guidance programmes. The new National Diploma Courses have been introduced recently. At this school, we are hosting the Creative and Media option in purpose-built accommodation.
