Parents Area

Welcome to our Parents Page

Hemel Hempstead School welcomes your child into a caring community where independent thinking, creativity and respect for each other are very much at the heart of its ethos.

Mr Stuart, Assistant Headteacher, has special responsibility for child protection. The school has a responsibility for ensuring that the children in its care are protected from abuse, and in the case of suspected abuse, he will ensure that the appropriate LEA procedures are followed.

Internet safety is also of paramount importance. To learn more please visit our eSafety page.

We strive to provide an attractive environment and a wealth of opportunities and resources as befits a specialist Performing Arts School. Beyond the curriculum our students engage in a wealth of activities to stretch their minds and bodies to greater levels of achievement both as an individual and as part of a team.

Hemel Hempstead School is very much part of the local community and engages in many activities that involve the people of Dacorum. We invite talented students from other schools to take part in our Performing Arts Master Classes, offer extra curricular courses to parents and students and other members of the public e.g Music and Astronomy, and raise money for many of the local charities.

One of the very interesting projects that we have recently undertaken is the setting up a special website called Hemel at War. This web site is a collaborative effort between ourselves and the people of Hemel Hempstead who can tell us first hand about their experiences of The Second World War.

Recently the school formed a special partnership with a school in the Easter Cape of South Africa - The Megezwa School. Students from both schools have been able to share work across the curriculum for example, Science, Maths, History, Physical Education,Drama ,Art, Dance and Citizenship. This has become a truly Global Partnership supported by the British Council and Academies trust.

The Summer of 2009 heralded the wonderful news that Hemel Hempstead School would be granted a second specialism in Maths and Science, adding to our existing and highly successful status of Performing Arts College. What does this mean for our students?

We warmly welcome parents into this community and encourage them to participate in the life of the school in any way they are able. We have a very active Parents Association whose indefatigable fundraising efforts are much appreciated.

In recent years the school has been able to invest heavily in improving and creating new facilities as well as new buildings for the 6th Form, Performing Arts and Food Technology.

One of proudest achievements this year has been the complete refurbishment of our cafeteria area and investment in the services of a new catering company.
