Key Stage 3
All pupils study languages at Key Stage 3 following the National Curriculum for Modern Languages.

Pupils work is completed in exercise books (red for French and yellow for German).
Year 7
In Year 7, pupils study French.
Initially pupils are taught in form groups, then set according to ability in October.
Through the themes of home, family and town, pupils learn the following language points:
- definite/indefinite articles
- the verbs avoir and être
- regular ER verbs
- the preposition à
- reflexive verbs
- the verb faire

Year 8
In Year 8, pupils study French and German.
Pupils are set according to ability.
FRENCH
Through the themes of school, hobbies, holidays, the environment and media, pupils learn the following language points:
- intensifiers and connectives
- du/de la/des
- the immediate future
- the perfect tense
GERMAN
Through the themes of family, school and hobbies, pupils learn the following language points:
- regular present tense verbs
- definite/indefinite articles
- possessive adjectives
- adjectives
Year 9
In Year 9, pupils study French and German.
Pupils are set according to ability.
FRENCH
Through the themes of leisure time, food and drink, holidays, health and well-being, pupils learn the following language points:
- modal verbs
- comparatives and superlatives
- partative article
- using past, present and future tenses
GERMAN
Through the themes of holidays,healthy living, shopping and the world of work, pupils learn the following language points:
- past tense
- use of weil
- modal verbs
- future tense
