Welcome

Tim Jordan Acting Head
Welcome to the website for The Hemel Hempstead School which will give you some important information about the school and a flavour of what it is like to be a member of the Hemel Hempstead School community.  However, in keeping with our school motto ‘Esse Quam Videri’ (‘To Be Rather Than To Seem To Be’) we encourage you to experience the school at close quarters by arranging a visit.

When you visit, we are sure that you will see for yourself our core values of Respect, Responsibility and Relationships in action.  Looking beyond the imposing façade of our impressive main building you will, like previous visitors, see our smart and distinctive uniform and the excellent conduct and manners of our students.  In addition, we are confident that you will observe the high standards and expectations which apply in all areas of school life, as well as the warm and effective relationships between staff and students.

Our specialisms in the Arts, Mathematics and Science help us to provide a

Tim Jordan Acting Headtruly broad and balanced curriculum.  We have a well-established and highly successful house system as well as a wide range of sporting, artistic, dramatic, musical, expeditionary and academic extra-curricular activities.  We revel in our capacity to produce superb quality productions, performances and events to involve and delight all and to produce sports teams which have enjoyed success at district, county and national level.

In our eightieth year, the school is celebrating an era of success and has reason to be proud of the past and the present.  Achievement was judged to be ‘outstanding’ at Key Stage 3 and 4 in our most recent OfSTED inspection in March 2011 and we pride ourselves on enabling every student to achieve of their best.  We have a talented and dedicated teaching staff, a committed group of support staff, a thriving Sixth Form and a dynamic cohort of students.  The school has a highly able and proactive governing body, a hard-working school association and a strongly supportive parent body.

Tim Jordan Acting HeadIf you are a prospective student, parent, teacher or Governor I would urge you to visit us.  Please contact us to make an appointment to be given a guided tour by our students who will share with you at first hand their experiences of life at The Hemel Hempstead School.  You will also have an opportunity to meet me and ask any questions you may have. If you are unable to visit the school, do feel free to contact me by telephone.  We look forward to hearing from you.
