Art
The Art Department occupies a suite of rooms in a purpose built Art and Craft block. The subject is taught by a team of young enthusiastic tutors with wide ranging skills. Traditional art and the latest technology combine to produce a thrilling array of work.
In art students are encouraged to explore visual, tactile and other sensory experiences to communicate ideas and meanings. They work with a range of traditional and new media, developing confidence, competence, imagination and creativity. Students record and present their ideas in sketchbooks and a final piece, either as a painting, drawing, mixed media or three dimensional design.
We encourage students to explore images and artefacts across times and cultures, and to understand the contexts in which they were made. In art students reflect critically on their own and other people’s work, judging quality, value and meaning. They learn to think and act as artists, craftspeople and designers, working creatively and intelligently. They develop an appreciation of art, craft and design, and its role in the creative and cultural industries that enrich their lives.
Overall we aim to provide a diverse and exciting programme of study at each key stage and to teach our students skills that can be used to further their own study at GCSE, AS, A Level and beyond.
